A long, yet helpful transcript of a speech by agent Laura Bradford on the state of erotic romance publishing, is currently making the rounds of the Internet. Since a high percentage of eBook romance authors write erotica, I believe the link to the speech on Dear Author deserves to be posted here, as well.
Bradford spoke before the Passionate Ink Chapter of the RWA at Nationals in D.C. She related information she, as an agent representing such authors as Lauren Dane and Jess Granger, gathered from editors at Avon, Bantam, Berkley Heat, NAL Heat, Dorchester, Grand Central, Harlequin, Kensington, Pocket and St. Martins. If you want a blunt, straightforward assessment of where and where not to send your next manuscript, Bradford’s speech should give you some solid clues.
What you won’t see, except in a tangential comment about Pocket’s anthology partnership with Ellora’s Cave, are editors discussing their wants lists for eBooks. eBooks (as a primary format) simply aren’t on the radar yet.
