Steampunk Tales, which bills itself as the “‘penny dreadful’ for your iPhone,” has launched with a free issue available for download. While not a romance-genre publication, per se, the zine has all the trappings Steampunkers love: the cool personal clothing choices, backward-imagined scientific inventions based on steam driven engines, and travel to worlds Jules Verne and H.G. Wells might approve.
Steampunk Tale’s editors have also adopted the Victorian and Edwardian Era love for serialized novels, as the free issue contains the first four chapters of “An Unfortunate Engagement” by G. D. Falksen. Subsequent issues are $1.99. Don’t have an iPhone? No cause for alarm. The magazine is available in PDF, Kindle, and Mobipocket formats, as well.
If you’re looking for a home for one of your own steampunk tales, the zine invites submissions of original work 4.5K words and longer, though based on the guidelines, I don’t think they’re into erotica. Pay is 4% of the gross revenue received from the issue in which an author appears, per published story.
